Roberta Palestine, M.D.

Roberta Palestine, M.D. is the founder and Medical Director of The Dermatology Center. She has been in practice since 1982. Dr. Palestine is a board certified dermatologist, and has been recognized as one of the top doctors in the Washington, D.C. metro area. She received her undergraduate degree from Cornell University and her medical degree with honors from the University of Rochester. She also attended the world-famous Mayo Clinic for her residency in dermatology.

At the Mayo Clinic, she received the coveted Paul A. O’Leary Award in recognition of excellence in patient care. “Patients have commented on how well I listen,” says Dr. Palestine. “I think that’s very important in customizing treatment for each individual patient. I find it satisfying to help people optimize their appearance, because when people look better it makes them feel better and therefore enhances their self-esteem and self-confidence.”

Thomas Yu, M.D.

Thomas Yu, M.D. is a board certified dermatologist. He received his medical degree with honors at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and completed his internship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center. Dr. Yu received his residency training in dermatology at Columbia University’s St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Medical Center, where he served as Chief Resident. He then completed his fellowship in Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Surgery at Columbia University’s Center for Laser and Dermatologic Surgery. He is the author of multiple articles and book chapters regarding cutaneous oncology, reconstructive surgery and dermatologic surgery.

Joseph Lee, M.D.

Joseph Lee, M.D. is a board certified dermatologist. He received his PhD., medical degree and dermatology residency training from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He is actively engaged in research at the National Institutes of Health, and has a broad background in skin cancer research and a special interest in surgery.

“As a trained scientist, I look upon diseases from a scientific point of view, but I never lose sight of the patient,” says Dr. Lee. “That’s because, of the many different ways we can offer treatment, each person responds differently.”

Khalique Zahir, M.D.

Khalique Zahir, M.D. is a native of West Virginia and came to the Washington, D.C. metro area after completing his General Surgery training at St. Mary’s Hospital/Yale University. He gained additional training in Cosmetic, Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery at Vanderbilt University. Dr. Zahir is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Plastic Surgery.

He practices in Maryland and Northern Virginia and has staff privileges at Suburban Hospital, Fairfax Hospital, Arlington and Alexandria Hospitals. He is considered a scientific and clinical educator, having published over 20 articles in national health journals on topics related to cosmetic and reconstructive surgery.

Brendan Pillemer, M.D.

Brendan Pillemer, M.D. is a board certified dermatologist who grew up near Rockville. He comes to The Dermatology Center from a practice in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Pillemer received his medical degree and his PhD in Immunology from the University of Pittsburgh. He also completed his residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan. Dr. Pillemer is also a member of the American Academy of Dermatology. In addition to traveling the world, Dr. Pillemer enjoys scuba diving and ice hockey. He resides in North Potomac with his family.

Jordana Gilman, M.D.

Jordana Gilman, M.D. is a board certified dermatologist. She joined The Dermatology Center and Rockledge Med Spa after 10 years in private practice in New York City and three years in Atlanta, specializing in medical, aesthetic, and laser dermatology. A cum laude graduate of Williams College in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Dr. Gilman earned her medical degree at The George Washington University Medical Center in Washington, DC. After performing her internship in internal medicine at St. Vincent’s Medical Center, she completed her dermatology residency at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, both in New York City. Dr. Gilman is board certified by the American Board of Dermatology, a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and a member of the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. Dr. Gilman is often consulted by local and national print and television media for her expert opinion on medical advancements in dermatology and new aesthetic trends and procedures. She sees patients in our Sibley office.

Omolara Olowoyeye, M.D.

Omolara Olowoyeye, MD/MPH is a board-certified dermatologist. Dr. Olowoyeye earned her undergraduate Bachelor of Science degree from Dartmouth College in Genetics, Cell, & Developmental Biology. She went on to earn a Masters in Public Health and thereafter, obtained her medical degree at the George Washington University School of Medicine. She then completed her internship in Baltimore, Maryland and subsequently completed both a Wound Care Fellowship and Dermatology Residency at the renowned Johns Hopkins University Hospital. She has authored multiple medical publications and has worked on various research projects such as Hidradenitis Suppurativa, keloids, skin-aging, ethnic skin dermatology, laser treatments, skin regeneration, Central Centrifugal Cicatricial Alopecia (CCCA), biofilms, and wound healing. Her clinical interests include cosmetic dermatology, melanoma, skin cancers, wound care, and ethnic skin dermatology. Dr. Olowoyeye sees patients in our Bethesda office.

Jennifer Whitman, PA-C

Jennifer Whitman, PA-C is a board certified Physician Assistant. She completed her masters of Physician Assistant Studies at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and her B.S. in Biology at Saint Mary’s College, Notre Dame, Indiana. Jennifer has been practicing cosmetic and medical dermatology at The Dermatology Center since 2009 and has been in clinical practice since 1999. Her areas of special interest and continuing education are in acne and non-surgical skin rejuvenation using lasers and injectables. She also worked in the specialties of Internal Medicine and Emergency Medicine. Jennifer lives with her husband and their two children.

Amy Waters, PA-C

Amy Waters, PA-C is a board certified Physician Assistant. She completed her Master of Physician Assistant Studies at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining The Dermatology Center, Amy worked at Holy Cross Hospital, Children’s National Medical Center and Inova Fairfax Hospital. She has worked in a variety of subspecialties during her career, including general, orthopedic, obstetrics, and plastics and reconstructive surgery. She also has an interest in cosmetic dermatology, including fillers, lasers and fat reduction techniques. Amy grew up in Fairfax, VA and lives in suburban Maryland with her two boys.

Shane O’Neil, PA-C

Shane O’Neil, PA-C is a board-certified physician assistant. He joined The Dermatology Center and Rockledge Med Spa in October 2016 after practicing dermatology for two and a half years in Wilkes-Barre, PA. He has also worked in surgery and urgent care over the course of his career. Shane earned his Masters of Physician Assistant Studies and Bachelors of Health Sciences degrees at Marywood University in Scranton, PA. He lives with his fiancée, K.C., in Bethesda. Shane sees patients in our Bethesda office.

Emily Bertrand FNP-C

Zoe Arriaga

Emily Bertrand is a board-certified Nurse Practitioner. She received her Master of Science in Nursing from Marymount University where she taught undergraduate nursing and was a student ambassador for the family nurse practitioner board review. She graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arkansas. She received the coveted Outstanding Young Alumni Award from the University of Arkansas for her dedication and commitment to serving vulnerable populations, both locally and abroad. She also received a full collegiate volleyball scholarship and was a member of the sigma theta tau international nursing honor society. Emily has seven years of experience practicing in medicine, ranging from intensive care in a trauma emergency department to labor and delivery and post anesthesia care. Her passion is in cosmetic and medical dermatology, and she uses her eclectic background to encompass all aspects of care for her patients. She sees medical and cosmetic patients in our Bethesda and Germantown offices.
